Shangtianchi, a national AAA-level scenic area, is situated in the hilly region of Guizhou, within Jiuba Town, Tongzi County, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province. Located in northern Guizhou, it borders Qijiang District and Nanchuan District of Chongqing, and neighbors seven districts and counties including Xishui, Renhuai, Honghuagang District, Suiyang County, and Zheng’an County.

Shangtianchi enjoys convenient transportation and is known as the “throat connecting Chongqing and Guizhou.” The Zhunchun Expressway, G210 National Highway, G75 National Highway, S303 Provincial Road, and the Sichuan–Guizhou Railway all pass through Tongzi. The Chongqing–Guizhou High-Speed Railway is expected to open in 2018, after which it will take only 40 minutes from Chongqing and 2 hours from Guiyang to reach Shangtianchi. By driving from the inner ring expressway of Nanping, Chongqing, onto G75 Lanzhou–Haikou Expressway, passing through Qijiang and exiting at Chumi, it takes a total of two and a half hours to arrive at Shangtianchi—making it very accessible.

The highest point of Shangtianchi is located on the northern side, at an elevation of 1,396 meters. The lowest point is on the southwestern side, at 736 meters above sea level, with a relative height difference of 660 meters. The terrain is higher in the north and south, lower in the middle, featuring a valley landform, with an average summer temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
