Xietian Palace was initially built during the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty (1506–1522). It suffered severe damage during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1862–1874) due to bandit raids, and was subsequently restored between the 16th and 32nd years of the Guangxu era (1890–1906). In 1991, the government renovated Xietian Palace for use as a cultural center, and it underwent another major restoration between 2003 and 2005. After enduring five hundred years of trials, Xietian Palace has been revitalized. On December 21, 1991, it was designated as a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guizhou Province.
