Qintai Road was named in honor of Zhuo Wenjun and Sima Xiangru, two legendary figures from the Western Han Dynasty who symbolized romance and love. In ancient times, Zhuo Wenjun and Sima Xiangru opened a wine shop on this road, with Zhuo Wenjun herself tending the bar. Dressed simply, she stood at the wine jar platform selling wine with calm composure and graceful ease. To keep their love eternal, Sima Xiangru also gave up playing the lute. Like the other shop assistants, he wore short pants, carried pitchers, washed dishes, and did odd jobs, all while chatting cheerfully. Though life was modest, the couple lived happily and freely, unburdened by worldly concerns.

Today, Qintai Road is Chengdu’s jewelry street, where major jewelry stores in the city gather, along with some restaurants suitable for wedding banquets—hence it is locally known as the “Love Road.” Stretching 900 meters, it features a complex of Han and Tang-style antique architecture, centered around the romantic love story of Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun, showcasing Han Dynasty customs such as etiquette, music and dance performances, and banquet culture.

Shu Feng Ya Yun – Located almost in the middle of Qintai Road, this theater has gained significant popularity in recent years as an Sichuan opera house and teahouse. It offers large bowls of tea as well as performances like face-changing and fire-spitting, making it a popular destination for tourists. Once a gathering place for famous Sichuan opera actors, Shu Feng Ya Yun has recently reunited renowned performers to present a nightly show titled “Classic Operas and Folk Masterpieces.” The venue has quickly risen in fame and has been widely reported by media both in China and abroad.
