Xiaotong Lane is one of the many "slow life" alleys in Chengdu, offering a glimpse into the city’s leisurely and gentle character. These tranquil lanes nestled in the heart of the city provide a temporary escape from the hustle and bustle, allowing you to pause, take a moment, and simply daydream. Media outlets have once described Xiaotong Lane as "pristine" because it is close to nature and even closer to the soul—a serene corner in the midst of a bustling metropolis.

Before 2008, Xiaotong Lane was only half a lane. It was later connected to Zhazhi Street as part of Chengdu’s sewage treatment project. At that time, it was relatively quiet, just an ordinary alley. When Kuanzhai Alley underwent a glamorous transformation and leaned increasingly toward a high-end image, young people had to look elsewhere for their scene. Xiaotong Lane, located not far from Kuan Alley and relatively peaceful, gradually became their destination.

The main backdrop of this street consists of gray-toned old-style buildings. But if you look closely, you’ll find charming specialty coffee shops and beverage bars on the ground floor along the street, blooming vibrantly like flowers among grocery stores and hardware shops—and growing more lush by the day. Thanks to these uniquely styled small businesses, Xiaotong Lane, though less than 200 meters long and tucked away behind the liveliness of Kuan Alley, has slowly become a favorite gathering spot for young people. Here, they come to burn incense, sip tea, discuss life—or do absolutely nothing, just sitting under the old trees and letting their minds wander. The charm of slow living is vividly on display here.
