Jinsha Nunnery

Jinsha Nunnery is a cultural relic protection unit of Chengdu.

Location: No. 56 Zaojunmiao Street, Shuangyanjing Community, Caoshi Street Subdistrict, Qingyang District

Era: Qing Dynasty

Core value: This architectural complex was originally built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and was initially named Huaguang Temple. In the third year of the Tongzhi era (1864), it was expanded. The main hall originally enshrined the Huaguang Bodhisattva, from which the temple derived its name. Legend has it that during the early Tongzhi years, it displayed auspicious signs to extinguish a fire, so during the expansion in the third year of the Tongzhi era, to commemorate the virtues of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva, it was renamed from Huaguang Temple to Jinsha Nunnery.

On May 2, 2018, it was announced by the People’s Government of Chengdu as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in Chengdu.
