Mengyi Monastery is a cultural tourism attraction.

Mengyi Monastery is a renowned ancient Gelugpa monastery built in the early post-propagation period of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located in Mengyi Township, seven kilometers from Shiqu County in Garzê Prefecture, Sichuan Province. "Mengyi" means the ancient Prajna Sutra in Tibetan, and it is said to be a place where monks from Ongong studied and practiced the Prajna.

In the 14th century (1849 AD), under the directive of the Fifth Dalai Lama Lodro Gyatso and the Sixth Panchen Lama, the monastery was established by the eminent monk Ral Sangye Chöpel (currently from Shanzhu Monastery in Zhake Township, Garzê Prefecture). It has a history of 158 years. The currently visible Mengyi Monastery was expanded after 1978. Following the expansion, many renowned khenpos were invited to the monastery to give teachings, empowerments, blessings, and consecrations. As a result, the monastery became home to a large monastic community, gained increasing renown, radiated the light of the Dharma, and benefited countless beings.

To date, Mengyi Monastery has produced many great accomplished masters such as the Fourth Jaisi Thubten Sonam Choephel Rinpoche, Tuqa, and Dala. The monastery currently has over 400 monks, including 10 khenpos: Khenpo Tuqa, Khenpo Jampa, and others.
