The Houcun Site in Hongtong is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shanxi Province.

Period: Neolithic Age

Location: Approximately 3 kilometers east of Zhaocheng Town, Hongtong County

The site was discovered in the spring of 1984, and excavations were carried out in 1986. The total area of the site exceeds 400,000 square meters. With thick cultural deposits and rich content, the site has yielded remains such as pottery kilns, ash pits, and tombs.

Its cultural characteristics are closest to those of the Taosi Site, which represents a particular culture. At the same time, certain pottery types from the Longshan Culture of central Shanxi also appear here. This indicates that the site incorporates some cultural elements from central Shanxi and served as a bridge in the cultural exchange between southern and central Shanxi. Archaeologists refer to it as the "Houcun Type of the Taosi Culture."
