Introduction to Panzhihua Baipo Mountain The Baipo Mountain Nature Reserve in Puhui, Miyi, ranges in altitude from 1,200 to 3,400 meters, featuring vertically distributed soil, climate, and vegetation. The primeval forest is dominated by Yunnan pine, with countless vines twisted and tangled among ancient trees. Rhododendrons bloom in competition in spring, and rare birds and animals roam the area.

Panzhihua enjoys a warm climate with no snow throughout the year, but Puhui is an exception. Due to its higher altitude and the widespread distribution of primeval forests, the area is rich in moisture and sees snow almost every year. However, the snow here in the south is different from that in the north. Though the mountains may be blanketed in heavy snow, the pine trees remain green and the flowers red beneath the white. With abundant sunshine in Panzhihua, clear weather often follows snowfall—it’s almost a given. On a sunny day, after the snow, gather your friends and head up the mountain to walk on the snowy paths. The snow glistens, the pines stand fresh and green, and the air is crisp and pure. There’s none of the bitter cold that grips the north in winter, only the delightful charm of walking on snow in search of green life. And if, after indulging your heart’s content, you return home, sweep the ground clean, break open some pine branches, roast a whole lamb to enjoy, sip on some ganzi wine, sing mountain songs to accompany the meal, and dance to the guozhuang rhythm. When you’re pleasantly drunk, and your eyes grow misty as you look around, you’ll see the dusk settling in, the green mountains wrapped in white, and perhaps the snow begins to fall again. In the small town, the lights have just begun to glow, distant barks of dogs and the murmurs of children can be heard, the bonfire flickers, filling your heart with a touch of wistfulness, a touch of tenderness, a longing for home, and a sense of drifting. It’s easy to lose yourself in the snowy night of this small mountain town, where the dust of a busy life is gently buried.
