Shengtian Temple

Shengtian Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located 30 kilometers east of Qinxian County in Shanxi Province, on the northern side of Donglang Village. Originally built during the Jin Dynasty, it was renovated in the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The temple complex consists of two courtyards. It includes a mountain gate, middle hall, rear main hall, east and west side halls, and left and right corridors. The middle hall is the oldest structure, measuring three bays in both width and depth, with an almost square floor plan. It features deeply overhanging eaves, upturned roof corners, and a single-eave hip-and-gable roof, with a gentle pitch. The beams and brackets are fully exposed, with four rafters and bracket sets intersecting on the golden pillars, demonstrating a neat structure and refined craftsmanship. The brackets under the eaves have two layers of projecting ang, and the bracket sets use real ang that directly support the load of the eaves, clearly reflecting Song Dynasty construction techniques. The murals inside the hall were painted during the Ming Dynasty, depicting Buddhas, bodhisattvas, attendants, and others. The color palette mainly uses mineral pigments such as azurite blue, malachite green, cinnabar, and vermillion. The facial features are delicate, the postures dignified, the tones simple, and the workmanship quite refined.
