The Ancient Tower Peak Cluster is located in Yunlian Town, Yunlian County, about 5 kilometers from the county seat, spanning over 40 square kilometers. It features more than 671 conical peaks, making it a typical example of “karst landform.”

To admire the Ancient Tower Peak Cluster, Huangniu Rock is the best spot. Named for its likeness to a yellow ox, it can be reached by a mountain road. From Huangniu Rock, you’ll feel as though you’re standing atop a height where “all other mountains seem small,” gazing at the towering peaks that rise from the earth—some resembling massive mushrooms, others like blazing torches; some look like couples strolling hand in hand, while others resemble whispering spouses, together forming a stunning natural landscape painting. You might even want to give them poetic names: the graceful and elegant Jade Maiden Peak, with her delicately combed hair; the burly and majestic Farmer’s Cliff, standing tall and proud; there’s also the scholar’s servant hurrying to an exam, a spiraling snail shell, an upright pine tree, and an exquisitely crafted pagoda… With their diverse shapes and ever-changing forms, they are a feast for the eyes.

You can also explore the Ancient Tower Peak Cluster by walking straight through the Ancient Tower Dam, crossing fields, passing farmsteads, and venturing into secluded valleys, all while lingering amid the peculiar peaks and lush bamboo forests. The karst depressions that complement the peaks were once lakes, with perennial water coverage spanning 4–5 square kilometers, forming seven islands, eight bays, and nine peninsulas—well worth seeing. You can also follow winding mountain trails to explore caves. There are over 200 karst caves scattered throughout the Ancient Tower Peak Cluster, among which the Box Cave and the Mandarin Duck Cave are the most spectacular. These caves feature winding paths, countless fascinating formations, and an atmosphere like a labyrinth or fairyland. Inside, you’ll find vivid stalagmites, stalactites, stone sprouts, helictites, rimstone dams, and draperies—all incredibly lifelike, sparking the imagination and filling you with wonder at nature’s extraordinary craftsmanship.
