Deep in the mountains, amidst undulating emerald hues, newly built exquisite "Western-style houses" stand, and cement roads wind through valleys and over hills. Up the mountain, flowers and trees vie in brilliance; down below, tea plants exude their fragrance. This is Chunfeng Village in Tengda Town, Yunlian County, Sichuan.

Chunfeng Village is located northeast of Yunlian County, 16 kilometers from the town government and 6 kilometers from the county seat. It administers three villager groups: Chunfeng, Zhongsha, and Longtang, with 187 farming households. Currently, Chunfeng Group plants 1,000 acres of high-quality plums in contiguous blocks, Longtang Group plants 1,000 acres of premium flowers, and Zhongsha Group plants 1,000 acres of high-quality tea. To the east, it borders Mutan in Gong County; to the south, it neighbors Weixin and Xunsi Towns; to the west, it adjoins Yunlian Town; and to the north, it is adjacent to Jiaocun in Gao County. The soon-to-be-completed Chengdu-Guiyang High-Speed Railway runs through Yunlian County. Spanning approximately 632.6 kilometers with a design speed of about 250 km/h, it is known as the "world’s first high-speed railway in mountainous terrain." Once operational, the travel time from Chengdu to Guizhou will be reduced from 17 hours to around 2 hours, laying the foundation for eco-tourism in Yunlian County.

Walking just 40–50 meters up a slope, you’ll see an ancient banyan tree, lush and leafy. This is the village’s treasured landmark, symbolizing the "Chunfeng Spirit" of practical science, hard work, innovative diligence, and shared prosperity.

The village features prominent karst landforms, with rocky landscapes and plum blossoms everywhere. Its excellent ecological resources provide a solid foundation for eco-tourism. Chunfeng actively develops rural tourism, currently hosting 19 agritainment spots, 13 of which were rated as star-level in 2010.

At over 600 meters above sea level, Chunfeng is a karst mountain village once plagued by barren limestone—locally called "Stone Village" or by its smaller name, "Mao’erwan." The thin, infertile soil and scarce resources made it a symbol of poverty before 2004. In recent years, the village committee rallied under the slogan "Better to work hard than suffer in hardship," embodying the "Chunfeng Spirit" to lead residents in self-reliance, hard work, and scientific development. By adapting industries to local conditions, improving infrastructure, and forging a path of diversified development in this rocky terrain—through road-building, plum planting, flower cultivation, tea farming, and agro-tourism—the village achieved initial success in building a new socialist countryside. After inspecting the village in June 2009, the provincial Party secretary urged the entire province to learn from its spirit and proposed establishing 10,000 "Chunfeng Villages."

Wang Jiayuan, the village Party branch secretary and an NPC deputy during the 18th Congress, was honored as a "Role Model of the Times" by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and gave an exemplary report at the Great Hall of the People. Chunfeng’s remarkable transformation hinges on three key pillars.

Boosting signature industries to sustain the most beautiful countryside. Chunfeng adheres to the integrated "village-industry" philosophy, promoting models like "livestock-biogas-fruit," "livestock-biogas-tea," "livestock-biogas-flowers," and "flowers-tea-poultry" to develop circular economies and three-dimensional agriculture. Leveraging forestry policies for post-afforestation projects, it fosters "one industry per group": Chunfeng focuses on plum fruits, Zhongsha on flower cultivation, and Longtang on tea. Now home to a 1,780-acre flower garden, 1,820-acre plum orchard, and 3,200-acre tea plantation, it has formed a "one specialty per group" industrial layout. In 2015, the village earned ¥2.6 million from fruit, ¥6 million from tea, and ¥2 million from flowers.

Advancing rural tourism to energize the most beautiful countryside. Centered on themed villages, Chunfeng blends ecological living with tourism, developing scenic industrial bases like Red Maple Garden, Plum Blossom Tea Plantations, Rocky Tea Seas, and Hundred Flowers Ridge through plum planting, tea gardens, and floral cultivation. Annual events—January’s "Early Tea Festival," March’s "Plum Blossom Festival," and July’s "Fruit Tasting Festival"—upgrade leisure tourism. With 28 agritainment spots and rural inns, it attracts urban visitors for sightseeing, relaxation, and experiences.

Nurturing spiritual civilization to enrich the most beautiful countryside. The villagers distilled the "Chunfeng Spirit"—"leading by example, working wisely and diligently, persevering through hardship, and prospering together." In 2013, the "735 Demonstration Project" launched: seven platforms (including a cultural corridor, library, activity center, and theater), three teams (art troupes, volunteers, and local sages), and five activities ("Best Chunfeng Contests," etc.), enriching cultural life. Recognized as the "Yunlian Model" by the Central Civilization Office and promoted nationwide by the Publicity Department.

The "Chunfeng Spirit" and "Chunfeng Experience" were incorporated into Sichuan’s 10th Party Congress report, while the village Party branch earned "National Advanced Grassroots Party Unit" honors. The secretary was named "National Model Worker" and "Outstanding Party Worker." On December 20, 2011, Chunfeng was honored as a National Civilized Village by the Central Civilization Commission, later gaining titles like "National Legal Demonstration Village," "Eco-Cultural Village," and "Provincial Agritourism Model." These accolades, widely reported, reflect its achievements in socialist rural development.

Spanning just 5,200 acres with one-third karst desertification, the industrious villagers turned rocky terrain into fruitful land, carving out prosperity and now cultivating tea and flowers. Here, this ancient banyan tree witnessed stones "blooming" and the blossoming of happiness across Chunfeng.

"Spring flowers, summer fruits, autumn scents (flowers), winter fowl (black-boned chicken)" defines its tourism appeal, drawing 20,000–30,000 visitors yearly.

Spring brings snow-like plum blossoms swaying in the breeze; autumn fills the air with the subtle scent of ripe fruit. Amid the karst landscape, clusters of plum trees burst into bloom between dark rocks, forming seas of flowers resembling drifting clouds or snowy plains. Each sunlit blossom bursts with fullness. "Gusts of spring breeze carry the faint fragrance of plum—this is the taste of spring." Agritainment courtyards, nestled among blossoms, exude rustic charm—clean, serene, and alive with contented chatter.

Each spring, thousands of visitors from the county, city, and beyond flock to admire the intoxicating plum blossoms.

Chunfeng grows 1,820 acres of plums. Thriving in rocky soil, the fruits are plump, translucent, and irresistibly sweet, with a crisper, richer taste. In summer, visitors rush to savor the famed "Mao’erwan" plums.

From a 2004 per capita income of under ¥1,800, Chunfeng reached ¥20,500 by 2016. "Rocks abound, but so do determined ‘Yu Gong’ [mythical perseverance]—here, they terrace stones, bridge them, dam them, and grow gold from them." The folk song "New Stone Ballad," adapted by villagers, reflects the village’s prosperity and civility.

Chunfeng also cultivates osmanthus, red maples, and late cherry blossoms. A 1,000-acre floral zone offers year-round blooms, creating a natural, multi-seasonal flower field landscape that perfumes the air.

Another highlight is the lingzhi (reishi mushroom) base—a 100+-acre integrated production, sales, and tourism park. Products include lingzhi potted plants, slices, spore powder, black/green tea, wine, and noodles.

Lingzhi boasts benefits like anti-tumor effects, immune regulation, radiation protection, nervous system calming, cardiovascular support, respiratory relief, anti-aging, liver protection, stroke prevention, and enhanced drug efficacy.

Visitors can also pick tea, fish, and savor agritainment specialties: black-bone chicken with sweet potato noodles, cured pork, stone-ground tofu, and braised pork trotters.
