Former Site of the Mu'ai Yamen

The Former Site of the Mu'ai Yamen is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

The entire building of the Mu'ai County Yamen in Junlian faces southwest to northeast, covering an area of approximately 2,380 square meters. Constructed in the 31st year of the Republic of China, which is 1942, the design features a wooden post-and-lintel structure with a single-eave gable-and-hip roof covered in small blue tiles. It forms a traditional courtyard complex consisting of a front hall, rear hall, lower hall, corridor rooms, enclosing walls, and a main gate. The front and rear halls each have seven bays, are 6 meters apart, and share a similar design. There are four bays on each side wing, along with six additional rooms for the kitchen, toilet, and storage. The rear section is supported by four pillars, with a width of eight bays and a depth of 12.5 meters, and an overall height of 6.5 meters. The platform base is 1 meter high and includes three steps. Within the courtyard, there is a pavilion and a central open space, making it highly reminiscent of Li’s Mansion in the movie “To Be a Soldier.” Over time, the main gate and enclosing walls have disappeared, the wooden walls have started to show signs of insect damage, and some sections have been repaired with bricks. The former grandeur is no longer present. It is one of the 428 newly added cultural relic sites during the third national cultural relics census conducted in Junlian County in 2009.
