The base of the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Guerrilla Column of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (Da Xue Shan) is a classic red tourism destination.

Da Xue Shan — the base of the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Guerrilla Column of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, is located in Da Xue Shan Town, Yunlian County, 60 kilometers from the county seat of Yunlian. It lies at the junction of four counties across Sichuan and Yunnan provinces (Yunlian County, Gong County, Weixin County and Yiliang County in Yunnan).

In February 1935, when the Central Red Army gathered westward in Zhaxi, it was decided to establish the Sichuan-South Guerrilla Column of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (later renamed the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Guerrilla Column of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army), tasked with pinning down and striking the enemy, developing guerrilla warfare, and supporting the strategic transfer of the Central Red Army in the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou border region. After its formation, the Sichuan-South Guerrilla Column maneuvered through the heavily garrisoned Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou border area, mobilized the masses, and carried out guerrilla warfare. Under the pursuit and blockades of tens of thousands of enemy troops and local militias from the three provinces, the column fought alone until its demise in January 1937. It ultimately fulfilled the mission entrusted by the Central Military Commission to pin down and strike the enemy and support the strategic transfer of the Central Red Army.

During its operations, the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Guerrilla Column used Da Xue Shan as its base for rest and logistical resupply. To this day, fabric currency used by the Red Army guerrilla column still exists among the local people in Yunlian. This currency was issued by the Workers’ and Peasants’ Bank of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Provincial Soviet Government, with a face value of three strings.

The Da Xue Shan mountain range stretches over 70 kilometers, covered with dense primeval forests and rarely visited by humans. The main peak lies within the territory of Da Xue Shan Town, with an elevation of 1,777.2 meters. Within Yunlian County, the mountain range extends 43 kilometers, covering a forested area of 32,299 mu, including 22,529 mu of woodland, with a forest coverage rate of 70%. The terrain is majestic and rugged, featuring novel landscapes and a tranquil environment that retains its pristine ecology.

In 2005, it was designated as a Scientific Exploration and Adventure Base for Chinese Youth by the China Association for Scientific Expedition of Youth. In the same year, it was recognized by the People's Government of Sichuan Province as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit ecological park as well as a red tourism scenic area.

Da Xue Shan Town: Located in the southern part of Yunlian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province, Da Xue Shan Town is 50 kilometers from the county seat and 140 kilometers from Yibin City. It was formed in late 2006 through the administrative restructuring and merger of the former Jiefang Township and Luomurong Town, and governs 22 villages and 1 community, covering an area of 104.6 square kilometers. As of May 12, 2009, the town had a total population of over 24,000. The road from the county seat to the town government is paved with cement.
