On May 10, 1929, the Fourth Route Guerrilla Unit of the Sichuan Red Army captured Dongdi Town in Changning. After distributing confiscated goods to the people at the market, they moved in the direction of Gong County. On the morning of the 11th, they arrived at Railings Stone, at the border between Tongluo Village in Liutou Township, Changning County, and Gong County, to rest.

Upon learning that Dongdi had been attacked, Chen Zifang, head of the Changning County Militia Bureau, quickly dispatched a squadron to pursue the guerrillas to Railings Stone and gathered nearby local militias to encircle them. The Red guerrillas left a small number of soldiers to cook breakfast, while the rest, under the command of Wang Zejia, fought back fiercely. After more than an hour of intense battle, they killed the squadron leader Qin Dewu, wounded some enemies who fled in disarray, and created another victory against greater odds. After the successful battle, the Red guerrillas immediately moved on.
