Hongxing Rock

Hongxing Rock is located on the eastern side of Zhangla Basin and the western slope of the Minshan Mountain Range. This scenic area sits at a high altitude and is characterized by its unique landforms of peculiar peaks and rocks formed by Quaternary glacial activity, as well as glacial barrier lakes. It is rarely visited by humans, giving it an air of mystery.

Situated at an altitude of 4,300 meters, “Hongxing Sea” features a lake surface in the shape of an asymmetrical five-pointed star, serene and beautiful, surrounded by a carpet of blooming flowers. On the middle cliff of its precipice, there is a red cave that looks as if dyed crimson with blood, the cause of which remains unknown. When the wind howls and clouds surge, the cave disappears into the mist; but when sunlight strikes, a curved red glow occasionally breaks through the fog, creating an eerie and fantastical scene.

Location: Located within Shanba Township, Songpan County, Sichuan Province, the entrance of the scenic area is adjacent to the “Nine-Ring Road” transportation hub. The valley stretches 25 kilometers in length, and is 18 kilometers from Jiuhuang Airport, 15 kilometers from Chuanzhusi Town, and 80 kilometers from Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area.

Scenic Introduction: The area features majestic peaks, clustered ridges, and towering pillars, creating a rugged and bold landscape. Within the valley lie glacier-formed lakes as blue as gemstones, naturally exquisite and graceful, especially the Hongxing Rock Lake, which is the most distinctive. This lake is shaped like an asymmetrical five-pointed star, with a water surface area of 480,000 square meters and a dark blue color so deep it seems unfathomable. The reflections of the blue sky and snow-capped peaks create a fairyland-like scene that is truly unforgettable. From the mountaintop, one can gaze into the distance at the undulating mountain ranges and deep valleys. All kinds of rare celestial phenomena are visible in full view. Sea of clouds shroud the sky, with waves of mist churning, and the mountain ridges appear and disappear intermittently, seemingly floating and sinking within the sea of clouds and mist, as if voyaging through the heavens. When the sunset glow reflects off the valley at dusk, it shines brilliantly, presenting a uniquely moving spectacle that feels like stepping into a dreamlike realm, offering a visual feast. Hongxing Rock is an excellent destination for natural science researchers studying geology, glaciers, rivers, alpine climates, and wildlife, as well as for travelers interested in mountaineering, hiking, leisure, vacationing, and adventure tourism.
