The Site of the Ma'ergai Meeting is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.

The Site of the Ma'ergai Meeting is located at Suohua-Miao in Shangbazhai Township, Ma'ergai District, Songpan County. The temple that once stood here has been destroyed, leaving only ruins and remnants of walls. On August 20, 1935, the Central Committee of the Communist Party held a Politburo meeting here to address Zhang Guotao’s proposal—following the Shawa Meeting—to move westward from Aba and retreat northward toward the Qinghai-Gansu border region. The meeting conducted a serious critique of this proposal, pointing out that the Red Army should secure the eastern bank of the Tao River basin, centered around Minzhou, and use this area as a base to advance eastward toward Shaanxi and Gansu. This strategic move aimed to achieve the goal of establishing a revolutionary base in the Sichuan-Shaanxi-Gansu region. The correctness of the strategy to establish a Soviet base in the Sichuan-Shaanxi-Gansu region was reaffirmed.

The meeting also decided that Mao Zedong would draft the “Supplementary Decision on the Current Strategic Policy” to complement the resolutions passed at the Lianghekou Meeting. The Ma'ergai Meeting served as a continuation of the Lianghekou and Shawa Meetings. It played a positive role in enhancing the understanding of the leadership and troops regarding the northern advance strategy and in overcoming the obstruction caused by Zhang Guotao’s right-leaning escapism. It is a Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
