Snow Treasure Peak

Snow Treasure Peak is located in the southern section of the north-south extending Min Mountains and is the highest peak of the range. It lies within Songpan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. As the main peak of the Min Mountains, Snow Treasure Peak is one of the major scenic spots in the Huanglong area. In Tibetan, it is called “Xiaxudongri,” meaning the “Seashell Mountain of the East.” With an elevation of 5,588 meters, it consists of modern glaciers and numerous glacial barrier lakes, covering an area of 160 square kilometers. The summit is covered with snow year-round and shines golden under the sunset, presenting a spectacular view. Snow Treasure Peak is the source of the Fu River and also serves as the watershed between the Min River and the Fu River. Within its interior are various alpine lakes of different sizes, as blue as gemstones; the mountainsides are rugged with crisscrossing ravines; and the foothills feature dense pine and cypress forests, where wild animals frequently roam. In August 2012, the Sichuan Snow Treasure Peak National Nature Reserve was officially admitted as a member of the “Chinese Biosphere Reserve Network” (CBRN).

Location: Snow Treasure Peak is situated at 103.8° east longitude and 32.7° north latitude. It lies in the southern section of the north-south extending Min Mountains and is the highest peak of the range. It is located within Songpan County, Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

Honor: In August 2012, the Sichuan Snow Treasure Peak National Nature Reserve was officially admitted as a member of the “Chinese Biosphere Reserve Network” (CBRN).
