Huahua and Luhu (Colorful Sea)

The Huahai and Luhai scenic areas are located in the southwestern part of Songpan County, Sichuan Province, situated in the southwestern extension of the main ridge of the Minshan Mountain Range, "Xuebao Ding." They lie over 300 kilometers south of Chengdu, about 70 kilometers north of Huanglong Scenic Area, and 40 kilometers west of the ancient town of Songzhou during the Tang Dynasty. The elevation is around 2,200 meters, and the total length exceeds forty kilometers. The area is mainly characterized by canyon landscapes. The scenic region boasts exceptionally well-preserved primitive features, with fully developed ancient glacial remnants and a relatively mild climate. The scenery of Huahua and Luhu is breathtakingly beautiful. Due to the presence of minerals such as calcium carbonate in the lake water, the colors are richly varied, leaving visitors in awe. The grassy meadows along the lakeshores are lush and green, dotted with a profusion of unnamed wildflowers. Looking around, one feels as if in a paradise on earth — truly a scene of overwhelming beauty. The Huahua and Luhu area features numerous natural attractions, including lakes, snow-capped peaks, glaciers, caves, waterfalls, sea of clouds, and more, offering an abundance of visual wonders. It is truly a hidden gem, “a beauty concealed within her chamber, unknown to the world.”

Attraction Introduction: Green Sea, named for its green-colored water, sits at an elevation of 2,700 meters and covers an area of 300 mu. It is surrounded by azaleas, arrow bamboo, red foliage, and tall pines. If Huahai is famed for its flowers, then Luhai stands out for its elegance in green. Surrounding it are steep cliffs, with towering pines and cypresses standing firmly on the edges, casting deep, dense ink-green shadows over the lake surface, like dark flecks on a piece of emerald jade, giving the water a profound, reserved, tranquil, and serene appearance whether under the bright spring skies or the thick summer haze. It seems to whisper its tender thoughts to the white clouds drifting high above and reveals its extraordinary spirit. The lake water is as green as jade and as calm as a mirror. The seasons bring unpredictable changes — green in spring, blue-green in summer, red in autumn, and blue in winter. Legend has it that the Ya-Qiang divine dragon lies beneath the lake. Upon hearing human voices, it will rise into the sky, summon wind and rain, and sweep away all living things around the lake.
