Former Site of the Red Army's Long March Passing through Shixiangzi
The former site of the Red Army's Long March passing through Shixiangzi is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.
The remnants of the Red Army's Long March passing through Shixiangzi are located at the residential committee of Shixiangzi Yi Ethnic Township, Xuyong County. These relics are spread along a 100-meter stretch of Shiba Street in Shiba Street Village and are a highly significant modern historical site in Xuyong County. On February 1, 1935, the Second Regiment of the First Red Army Corps entered the county first, engaging in multiple intense battles with Sichuan troops. On the 3rd, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Luo Fu (also known as Lo Fu), and Bo Gu led their forces to arrive at Shixiangzi for an overnight stay. The next day, they spent the Spring Festival in Shixiangzi, holding an official meeting to celebrate the New Year. The Shixiangzi Conference marked a major turning point during which Bo Gu handed over power to Luo Fu — an event of profound historical significance. During this period, the Red Army also carried out revolutionary activities in Shixiangzi: establishing institutions such as the Shixiangzi Red Army Mint, the Currency Exchange Office of the Chinese Soviet Republic, the Radio Station of the Central Red Army, and the Confiscation Committee of the Central Red Army, all of which began operations. The Red Army camped in Shixiangzi for three days before departing on February 5, 1935, toward Zhaxi in Yunnan. This marks the most important activity of the Red Army’s first crossing of the Chishui River within Xuyong County, leaving behind a wealth of historical relics and offering deep educational value about the revolution.
