Shuilaoyi Yi Ethnic Township: A township under the administration of Xuyong County. In 1950, it was known as Shuilaoyi Township; it became a commune in 1958. In 1963, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Xuyong County from Gulin County. In 1984, Shuilaoyi Yi Ethnic Township was established, and in 1992, Tanchang Township was merged into it. Located in the southwestern part of the county, it borders Chishui River to the south, across which lie Guizhou Province and Yunnan Province, and adjoins Yunnan Province to the west. Known as the “place where a rooster’s crow can be heard in three provinces,” it lies 92 kilometers from the county seat.
