Penglai Bridge

Penglai Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

The Ning-Shi Bridges refer to Penglai Bridge (commonly called the Upper Bridge) and Yonghe Bridge (commonly called the Lower Bridge), which span the Yongning River in Xuyong County. These two bridges, with a history of nearly 500 years, are large five-arch stone bridges each about 100 meters long, connecting the eastern and western sections of the county town divided by the river. “Moonlit Night over Twin Bridges” — in the hazy moonlight, Penglai and Yonghe bridges stand faintly opposite each other, forming one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Xuyong and a true depiction of the enchanting riverside scenery on a moonlit night. Having endured the passage of time and weathered historical storms, these ancient and weather-beaten stone bridges still lie across the Yongning River, bearing witness to Xuyong’s storied past and long history.

Protected Area: The protected area extends 5 meters outward from the main body of the cultural relic protection unit on the east and west sides. The south and north sides are bordered by the Yongning River.

Construction Control Zone: A zone extending 10 meters beyond the protected area is designated as the construction control zone.

Xuyong Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Xuyong County and the location of the county government. Historically, it was an important route from southern Sichuan to Yunnan and Guizhou, and one of the ports for exporting Sichuan salt. During the Ming Dynasty, it was the seat of the Yongning Pacification Commission and Yongning Guard; in the Qing Dynasty, it was the seat of the Direct-Controlled Xuyong Prefecture and Yongning Zhou. In 1933, it was established as Zhongcheng Town, renamed Shuangcheng Town in 1942, divided into Dongcheng and Xicheng towns in 1951, merged to form Chengguan Town in 1956, and renamed Xuyong Town in 1981. It is located in the central part of the county, spanning both banks of the Yongning River. The area covers 117.6 square kilometers with a population of 86,000.
