China Academy of Engineering Physics Science City Technology Museum

The museum is the only nuclear science and technology museum in the country, and it was officially opened to the public on October 27, 1998. With the development history of our country's — as the main thread, it looks at today’s high-tech fields around the world, using pictures, models, physical objects, audiovisuals, and more to vividly introduce the development and utilization of nuclear energy, the principles of —, laser weapons, high-power microwave weapons, and other fundamental concepts and prospects. It also showcases the pioneering and dedicated spirit of the founders of the China Academy of Engineering Physics, featuring their hard work, selfless contributions, and striving to bring honor to the nation.

The theme of the second exhibition hall includes a dented aluminum pot and a worn-out blue cotton-padded coat, which were used by scientists at the remote Qinghai base in the early 1960s.

Speaking of the China Academy of Engineering Physics, many people may not be familiar with it. In fact, the successful detonation of China’s first atomic bomb on October 16, 1964, was the result of the efforts of scientists from the China Academy of Engineering Physics. On July 13, 1958, the Ninth Research Institute in Beijing (the predecessor of the China Academy of Engineering Physics) was established, marking the quiet beginning of China’s great campaign toward —. Renowned scientists such as Zhu Guangya, Deng Jiaxian, and Guo Yonghuai embarked on a challenging and arduous secret journey. By the end of 1962, the scientists relocated from an old artillery range at the foot of the Great Wall to Qinghai, where the natural and living conditions were extremely harsh. Seven years later, the testing base was moved again to a valley in Sichuan. In September 1983, the state gathered the “people of CAEP” in Mianyang, where a modern scientific city was built.
