The Li Bai Memorial Hall is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Jiangyou Li Bai Memorial Hall is a celebrity museum built to commemorate the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai. Situated on the scenic Changming River in downtown Jiangyou, it spans more than 40,000 square meters. Planned in 1962 and officially opened in 1982, it combines collection display, academic research, sightseeing, and reception services. The park is magnificent and elegant, featuring classical simplicity, lush gardens, and flowing streams, offering serene and beautiful scenery that captivates visitors.

The museum houses a collection of over 4,000 cultural relics, including various editions of Li Bai’s poetry from different dynasties and fine artworks by master painters and calligraphers throughout history. Among them are handwritten works by Chinese leaders such as Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Song Qingling, as well as pieces by renowned artists like Qiu Ying, Zhu Zhishan, Zhang Daqian, Fu Baoshi, and Pan Tianshou—treasures of national cultural significance. With its artistic gardens, rich collections, and excellent visitor services, the Li Bai Memorial Hall enjoys high recognition and prestige both in China and abroad. It is a must-visit destination for those seeking to explore traditional Chinese history and culture and pay homage to the great poetic immortal, Li Bai. In 2009, it was designated by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as a “National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base.”

After being rebuilt following the devastating “5·12” earthquake, the Li Bai Memorial Hall retained its classic Tang-style garden architecture while expanding its exhibition space. The reconstructed museum features a more rational layout and enhanced functionality. It is mainly divided into the Memorial Exhibition Area, Cultural Relic Display Area, Li Bai Culture Research and Exchange Area, Li Bai Culture Popularization Area, and Tourism Information Service Area.

The museum offers a wealth of exhibits. The “Tai Bai Hall” serves as the introductory exhibition space, the “Tai Bai Study” displays the life and achievements of Li Bai, the “Poetry Garden” showcases fine ancient calligraphy and paintings from the collection, the “Ancient Style Hall” features historical relics from Jiangyou, the “Du Fu Hall” presents the life and poetry of Du Fu, the “Fragrant Cloud” exhibit displays unique stones and root carvings, and the “Flower Rain” exhibit features modern master paintings and calligraphy. Additional displays can be found in the Stele Corridor, Art Gallery, and the “Return Pavilion.”

Both the exhibits and the landscape gardens were constructed to meet the standards of top-tier museums in China. With careful consideration given to harmonizing Tang-style architecture with modern aesthetic principles, the displays use artistic techniques and appropriate modern high-tech methods to present the life, major achievements, and treasured collections of Li Bai. This allows visitors of all ages and backgrounds to appreciate the essence of Li Bai’s cultural legacy. The gardens follow the style of classical Chinese literati gardens, incorporating design elements of Sichuan-style gardens and the cultural spirit of Li Bai. Meticulously crafted, they stand as a model of elite literary memorial gardens, allowing both domestic and international visitors to immerse themselves in the profound charm of Li Bai’s culture through an educational and entertaining experience.

Transportation

1. Several bus stations in Mianyang generally have buses to Jiangyou, running every 15 minutes with fares around 10–12 RMB. Trains also reach Jiangyou, with fares between 6–11 RMB.

2. From Chengdu to Jiangyou, you can take a bus from Chengdu Zhaojuesi Bus Terminal. Buses run daily from 8:00 to 19:00, approximately every 15 minutes, with fares around 40 RMB and a travel time of about 2.5 hours.

Li Bai (February 8, 701 – December 762), courtesy name Taibai, also known as Qinglian Jushi or the “Banished Immortal,” and nicknamed Li Twelve, was a poet of the Tang Dynasty, often referred to alongside Du Fu as “Li-Du.” Li Bai’s poetry collection, Li Taibai Ji, has been passed down through generations, with representative works including “Quiet Night Thought,” “Drinking Alone under the Moon,” and “Dreaming of the Goddess of the Luo River.” He brought ancient romanticist literature to new heights, excelling in song-style poetry and seven-character quatrains, achieving levels difficult for later poets to surpass.
