Huanggong Ancestral Hall in Jiangyou

Huanggong Ancestral Hall in Jiangyou is a cultural relic protection unit of Mianyang City.

Huanggong Ancestral Hall is located at the northern end of Banbian Street (now Lingxi Street) in Chonghua Town, on the west bank of Lingxi River. It faces east and is built in a square shape surrounding a courtyard (“回” character layout). Originally covering an area of about 9,000 square meters, with a construction area of over 4,000 square meters, the project involved an investment of more than 50,000 silver dollars, over 200,000 workdays, and the use of more than 60,000 tall, high-quality trees. The architectural complex features over 20 large and small rooms, with walls built from large blue bricks, blue tiles on the ridges, and floors made of a three-part mixture of cooked glutinous rice, lime, and fine sand — solid and smooth. The arches above the doors, windows, and columns are decorated with colorful clay sculptures in classic, elegant designs. Construction started in the autumn of 1931 (the 20th year of the Republic of China) and was completed in March 1934 (the 23rd year). It was funded and built under the name of Huang Dezhai, father of Huang Qingyuan, who was then the local leader of the Gelaohui fraternity group and Chief of the Zitong County Police Bureau. From April to May of the following year, the headquarters of the Fourth Front Army of the Red Army was stationed there. In December 1949, it was repurposed as the district military control committee headquarters. By July 1950, it was taken over by the People’s Government as the office and living quarters of the district government. In May 1975, the District Revolutionary Committee moved out, and the Commune Revolutionary Committee moved in. In 1984, the southern small courtyard buildings were demolished, and modern office and living facilities were newly constructed. After being damaged in the “5·12” earthquake of 2008, the site was renovated and turned into a town cultural activity center and folk culture museum, with its preserved condition and current usage being in good state.

Chonghua Town: Chonghua Town is a historic and cultural town in Jiangyou, named after the Chonghua Weir within its territory. Established as a market town in the eighth year of the Yongzheng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1730), it was originally under the jurisdiction of Zitong County. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, it became a township; in the 24th year of the Republic of China, it was changed to the Chonghua Joint-Defense Township, and in the 29th year, the joint-defense was restructured into a regular township containing 21 baos (neighborhood units). After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, in 1952, it was divided into four townships: Chonghua, Tongxing, Wuxing, and Shuangbai. Chonghua Township included five villages: Minzhu (Democracy), Qianjin (Advance), Shengli (Victory), Huasheng (Flower Victory), and Xinyi (New One).
