The Birthplace of Li Bai in Jiangyou is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The former residence of Li Bai is located in Qinglian Town, Jiangyou City (i.e., the Li Bai Birthplace Scenic Area), situated between the urban areas of Mianyang and Jiangyou. It is 15 km from downtown Jiangyou, 23 km from downtown Mianyang, and 10 km from National Highway 108 (the entrance to the Mianyang–Guangyuan Expressway). The planned control area of this scenic zone spans 23 square kilometers, with the core scenic area covering approximately 8 square kilometers. In 1998, it was designated as a provincial-level scenic spot by the Sichuan Provincial Government. Qinglian is flanked on the left by the Lian River and on the right by the Fu River. Blessed with picturesque landscapes and an ethereal charm, it was an important town in ancient Mianzhou during the Tang Dynasty and remained a thriving commercial hub with well-developed water transport until the Qing Dynasty. In 1994, it was named a Historical and Cultural Town of Sichuan Province by the provincial government. Qinglian is not only the birthplace of the legendary poet Li Bai and rich in profound historical and cultural heritage—making it the most complete global representation of Li Bai’s culture today—but also stands out as one of the three key tourism projects being developed in Mianyang due to its unique scenery and convenient transportation. It is a major highlight along the “Ethnic Culture and Eco-Tourism Route” that includes Mianyang – Li Bai’s Birthplace – Yuanwang Cave – Bao’en Temple – Baima Mountain Village – Wanglang – Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong.

Within the scenic area, you can explore historic cultural sites such as the Temple of Taibai, Longxi Courtyard, Pink Bamboo Tower, Mingxian Shrine, Yueyuan Tomb, Ink-Washing Pool, and Grinding Needle Stream, all of which offer a glimpse into the poet’s life and the story of his birth and upbringing. Across more than a thousand years of history, you can feel the poet’s lofty ambition to leave home, travel afar, and venture into the world with sword in hand. The touching legends of ancient ferry crossings and red cliffs under night rain at sites like Manyi Ancient Ferry and Hongyan Night Rain will stir your imagination and leave you enchanted. The newly developed Taibai Stele Forest, as one of Mianyang’s five major tourism projects and among the first batch of 100 tourism investment projects promoted in Sichuan Province, is even more awe-inspiring. The entire stele forest features works by calligraphers and painters from China and abroad who have created pieces based on Li Bai’s poetry. Combining modern and traditional design elements, it is built against the mountain with a novel concept and grand momentum. It showcases beautiful garden landscapes, exquisite calligraphy, and remarkable stone carving art, making it an artistic garden that celebrates the culture of Li Bai. The first phase of the project is now open to visitors.

Transportation

1. Several bus stations in Mianyang generally have buses to Jiangyou, departing every 15 minutes, with fares around 10–12 RMB. Trains also reach Jiangyou, with fares of 6–11 RMB.

2. From Chengdu to Jiangyou, you can take a bus from Chengdu Zhaojuesi Bus Terminal. Buses run daily from 8:00 to 19:00, approximately every 15 minutes, with fares around 40 RMB and a travel time of about 2.5 hours.

Qinglian Town: Originally known as Manyi Ferry in ancient times, it was called Qinglian during the Tang Dynasty because the river within its territory was called Lian River (now Pan River), known for its clear waters, hence the name Qinglian (meaning “clear and honest”). Later, it was renamed Qinglian after Li Bai’s pseudonym, Qinglian Jushi. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Qinglian Town was officially established in 1954. Located in the southern part of Jiangyou, it is 13 km from Jiangyou City and 20 km from Mianyang City.
