Yangmiao Gorge Scenic Area

The Yangmiao Gorge Scenic and Tourist Area is located in the fold zone of the Longmen Mountain Range on the eastern edge of the western geosyncline region of China. The scenic area lies within Wensheng Township in the northwest of Jiangyou City, Sichuan Province, approximately 60 kilometers from Jiangyou City, accessible via a secondary highway, about 100 kilometers from Mianyang, and around 220 kilometers from Chengdu, with connections via the Baoji-Chengdu Double Track Railway and the Mianyuan–Guangyuan Expressway among other routes. The scenic area covers an area of 80 square kilometers. Due to the intense and multi-phase tectonic movements of the Longmen Mountains, the region features highly developed folds and faults. Long-term erosion and dissolution have resulted in diverse karst erosion landforms—such as clustered peaks, sinkholes, multi-level caves, underground rivers, canyons, and sheer cliffs—comprising steep, rugged, and majestic mountain forms and karst landscapes. The scenic area derives its name from the mountain ranges, valleys, and plains that together create a pictographic "horse" shape as well as from the ancient town of Yangmaba.
