Jiangyou Tianyin Scenic Area (Tianyin Cave)

The Tianyin Scenic Area is situated in Hanzeng Town, Jiangyou City, in the northwest of Sichuan Province, covering a total area of approximately 50 square kilometers (with 30 square kilometers of water area). It is 12 km from downtown Jiangyou and 140 km from Chengdu. The area features natural landscapes, karst landforms, and a cluster of limestone caves formed by fractures in karst structures. The scenic area is an organic blend of four themed areas: the exploration of the primitive Shima Mountain forest, the leisure and watersports at Xiangshui Lake, the adventure through the Tianyin Cave system, and the seasonal love-themed flower sea exhibition.

The Tianyin Cave system is a natural karst cave. Currently, over 5,000 meters of the cave area is open to visitors. According to a 2008 Sino-French joint geological expedition, the cave is identified as a remnant of tectonic movement from 200 million years ago. Inside the cave, there are abundant formations such as stone flowers, stalagmites, stone vines, stone pillars, and dripping stone basins, scattered in various heights and shapes that resemble scenes from Taoist mythology—vividly lifelike. There are more than 10 large and small cave chambers, with the largest, “Penglai Fairyland,” spanning over 800 square meters. The cave is named “Tianyin” (Heavenly Sound) because some of its stalactites can be struck to produce clear and melodious tones, creating a truly astonishing effect.

The love-themed seasonal flower sea exhibition is located in the central part of the scenic area, where the flower fields dance with different colors and forms throughout the seasons. The Xiangshui Lake watersports and leisure area is an artificial lake formed by damming the Panjiang River for hydroelectric power and is situated in the northwest section of the scenic area. The lake’s surface is mirror-like, and drifting on a boat amidst the gentle waves, you’ll find the lakeside orchards and flower gardens blooming competitively each season, filling the air with the fragrance of fruit. Looking into the distance, you’ll see overlapping emerald mountains, verdant peaks like ink-wash paintings, and misty drizzle, as if drifting into a heavenly paradise on earth.
