Wensheng Puzhao Temple

Wensheng Puzhao Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the Sichuan Provincial level.

Wensheng Puzhao Temple is located in Changping Village, Wensheng Township. According to records, it was built during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, and underwent renovations and reconstructions in the eighth year of the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty, as well as the fourth and fourteenth years of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, becoming a widely renowned temple. In 1992, it was designated as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Jiangyou City (County), and in June 2007, it was announced as a cultural heritage site protected by Sichuan Province.

Wensheng Puzhao Temple faces west and consists of a surviving quadrangle courtyard with a construction area of approximately 240 square meters. Except for the Mahavira Hall, which dates back to the Ming Dynasty, all other structures were built during the Qing Dynasty or in modern times. The roof framework of the Mahavira Hall is well-preserved. The hall is three bays wide and three bays deep, with the center bay being 7 meters wide, the side bays 3.2 meters wide, the total width 13.4 meters, and the total depth 17.5 meters. It features a single-eave flush-gable roof with clay tiles, relatively steep pitch sections, and surviving black ridge decorations such as chiwei ornaments. The timber frame uses a post-and-lintel system with relatively large materials. The column diameter reaches 0.57 meters, reflecting a late Ming style. It was constructed in the eighth year of the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty and counts among the city’s earlier wooden structures.
