Zhongba Red Army Victory Monument

The Zhongba Red Army Victory Monument is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province and a classic red tourism site.

The Red Army Victory Monument is located in Zhongba Town, Jiangyou City, with a protected area of 707 square meters and a floor space of 51.26 square meters. It is one of the city's important patriotic education bases. The monument faces south and is divided into three parts: the base, the pedestal, and the main body. The base is built of stone in the shape of an "Ya character," standing 1.63 meters high and 7.16 meters wide. The front is paved with ten steps arranged in a V-shape. The pedestal is 2.85 meters high and octagonal in shape, with each panel featuring a flat inner frame—three inscriptions can be found on the southern and northern sides. The main body is built of brick, stands 17 meters tall, and is crowned with a five-pointed star at the top. Its four sides have cylindrical decorations with rectangular planes, inscribed with gilded characters in red painted backgrounds in regular script. South face: “Victory Monument of the Invincible Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Fourth Army!”; North face: “Fight for an independent, free, and territorially intact Soviet New China!”; East face: “Eradicate feudal forces, eliminate the traitor Chiang Kai-shek, and resolutely communize all of Sichuan!”; West face: “Thoroughly confiscate the land of the landlord class and distribute it equally to poor peasants; resolutely expand the Red Army!”

The Red Army Victory Monument was originally the “Merit Stele of Dong Songheng, Commander of the First Route of the 19th Army of the Chinese Revolutionary Army.” Dong Songheng, also known as Chang’an, was from Renshou, Sichuan, and at the time served as the division commander of the Jiangyou garrison. Local gentry funded the construction of the stele to honor his contributions to Jiangyou’s economic development. In April 1935, after the Red Army successfully captured Zhongba, it was repurposed as the “Red Army Victory Monument.” In June 1935, following the Red Army’s withdrawal, the Kuomintang renamed it the “Monument to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Father of the Republic of China.” In 1959, it was restored to its original title as the “Red Army Victory Monument.”

Protected area: Extends 15 meters outward from the outer edge of the monument. Total area: 707 square meters.
