Wenfeng Tower

Wenfeng Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangyou City.

Wenfeng Tower is located in Yongsheng Town. Its original construction date is unknown, but it was rebuilt in the third year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1877), and is also known as the "Kui Star Pavilion." It underwent comprehensive renovation in 2007. The tower faces south and is a three-tiered, hip-and-gable roofed pavilion-style building with a square floor plan, covering an area of 120 square meters. It has a total height of 15 meters and a width of three bays: the central bay is 4.1 meters, the side bays are 3.2 meters each, totaling 10.5 meters. The building has three stories, with purlins placed between the eave pillars and inner columns, topped with wooden floorboards and connected by a wooden staircase. The structure uses a post-and-lintel wooden frame, with a total of 16 wooden pillars—12 eave pillars and 4 inner columns, all resting on drum-shaped stone bases. Within the central bay, the space between the eave pillars is spanned by a five-rafter beam, atop which are column-like brackets supporting a three-rafter beam. The inner and eave pillars are connected with through-tenons that extend through the eave pillars to form overhanging eaves. The hipped sections of the hip-and-gable roof have bargeboard ends secured with decorative gable boards. The roof is covered with small blue tiles, with the central ridge built from brick and tile clad in plaster, and vertical drips at the eaves. Wenfeng Tower is the largest surviving three-tiered, hip-and-gable roofed wooden structure in Jiangyou City and holds significant architectural and artistic value.
