Dongshan Cliff Tomb Cluster

The Dongshan Cliff Tomb Cluster is located in the Dongshan area of Sanhe Town. The tomb entrances are set at a certain height above the ground, arranged horizontally, offering a wide view. Tomb M1 was exposed early on, oriented at 5°, measuring 8.6 meters in length, 1.27 meters in width, and 1.4 meters in height. The Dongshan Cliff Tomb Cluster was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangyou City in 1992. In 1995, with approval, the Provincial Institute of Archaeology and the Jiangyou Cultural Relics Management Office jointly excavated 29 cliff tombs, unearthing over 200 artifacts including pottery figurines and pottery chickens. The Jiangyou Municipal Government has demarcated both an absolute protection zone and a general protection zone. The discovery of these tombs provides rare physical evidence for local Han Dynasty burial customs and regional historical culture.
