Shaanxi Temple

Also known as the Western Qin Guild Hall, it is located in Group 2 of Hejie. "It features a two-courtyard complex with a stage and elevated walkways, built in the early years of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty. It was constructed by people from Shaanxi who struck it rich from well-digging in Gongjing. Due to the large number of Shaanxi migrants, this temple was built. The east and west wing rooms were constructed earlier, giving the temple an ancient and simple appearance." The main hall is the Guan Sheng Hall, housing a statue of Guan Yu—half-armored and half-robed, with a red face, black beard, silkworm-like eyebrows, and phoenix eyes, exuding a solemn and awe-inspiring presence. On the left, Guan Ping holds a seal, while on the right, Zhou Cang wields a sword; Zhou Cang’s statue is over ten feet tall, with round, fierce eyes and a steel-like beard, rendered vividly and lifelike. The second hall is the Dou Niu Palace, which houses a statue of Laozi—the Supreme Old Lord—with silver beard and white hair, a kind expression, and dressed in flowing Taoist robes, sitting upright. There is a carved stone Bagua Furnace, featuring the yin-yang and eight trigrams, with swirling clouds but no visible chisel marks, considered a masterpiece of stone carving. On both sides are statues of the Twelve Immortals, each with distinct facial features and varied postures, representing fine examples of clay sculpture. Although the temple has now been demolished, its foundations remain, along with several scattered stone carvings.
