Ziliujing Old Street

Ziliujing Old Street is situated in the old city center of Zigong and is one of the cradles of this national-level historical and cultural city. In November 2005, Zigong undertook protective redevelopment of the old salt field street of Ziliujing, preserving a living example for visitors to discover, understand, and experience the city. Spanning 1.5 kilometers in length and flanked by hills and water, the street exudes an enduring classic charm. It was once a historic salt transport route and also the site of the world-renowned "Ziliujing" (Self-Flowing Well). The architecture along the street reflects the style of residential buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period in southern Sichuan. Simple folk courtyards line the stone-paved paths, while grand mansions with secluded gardens are also scattered throughout. Existing sites such as the Lu Bianjing, Qian Chuanjing, Rong Hua Jing, Si Wang Jing, and Huo Long Jing salt wells attract visitors’ attention. The Shan Hou Bridge, Ziliujing Site, and salt transport docks are found along the banks of the Fu River. The old street is dotted with teahouses, taverns, art workshops, and craft studios. Ancient well sites have been revived, bringing back the charm of past times. It is a great place to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Fu River, trace the legacy of salt history, experience local customs, and unwind.
