Liangtan Hydropower Station Reservoir Area

The Liangtan Hydropower Station Reservoir Area is situated in the western part of Dechang County. It came into existence after the Yalong River was dammed, causing the water level to rise and forming a stunning scene where high gorges embrace calm waters — a breathtaking combination of nature and human ingenuity. The normal storage level of the reservoir is at the 145-kilometer point along the main channel of the Yalong River, with backwater affecting both the main stream and its tributaries totaling 240 kilometers. The widest stretch of the river spans 1,500 meters, while the average width is about 500 meters. At normal water storage level, the reservoir covers a surface area of 101 square kilometers. Along the Yalong River’s main course in the Liangtan area, over 81 kilometers lie within Panzhihua City, with the remaining stretch extending for dozens of kilometers along the border between Dechang and Yan Yuan counties.

The 100-kilometer-long expanse of water in the Liangtan Reservoir Area resembles a silver ribbon nestled among towering mountains. With an average width of over 80 meters, the broad waters are flanked by high peaks that connect continuously, showcasing diverse and majestic mountain forms. The lake surface is calm and waveless, making it an ideal destination for eco-tourism and leisure vacations.
