Ancient Pagodas from the Qing Dynasty

The Qing Dynasty ancient pagodas are cultural tourism attractions.

There are six ancient pagodas distributed within Dechang County, most of which were built during the Qing Dynasty. These pagodas vary in shape, with heights ranging from around 10 to over 20 meters. Among them, the Cida Character Pagoda stands out as particularly majestic and graceful. Located in Xingsheng Village, Cida Township, it was built in the ninth year of the Tongzhi reign (1870), facing south with its back to the north. The pagoda imitates a five-tiered pavilion-style tower with pointed roof ridges in a complex angular design. The pagoda has a circumference of 16.2 meters, covers an area of 21.9 square meters, and reaches a total height of 21.8 meters, constructed with brick and stone. The first tier houses two inscribed stelae and three merit steles, with windows on the southern side. The second and third tiers have windows only on the southern side, while the other sides feature fired clay figurine reliefs. The fourth tier has windows and a figurine relief on the northern side, with the other four sides engraved with the Chinese characters “龙吟虎啸” (Roar of the Dragon, Howl of the Tiger). The fifth tier has a window on the southern side, while the other five sides are inscribed with the characters “唯有读书高” (Reading Is the Noblest Pursuit).
