The ancient city of Fengdu is not only nestled between mountains and water, but also in history

is regarded in legend as a blessed land of immortals and the capital of the underworld. Life ends here, and new life begins here. People from all over the world, whether male or female, young or old, of Asian, Caucasian, or African descent, have their souls report to the King of Hell in Fengdu upon death, awaiting their assignments. After a series of complex procedures—including inquiries, investigations, interrogations, and trials—the King of Hell ultimately determines their fate based on their conduct in the mortal world and their behavior in the underworld. Some are reborn as humans or gods, while others are reincarnated as pigs, sheep, cattle, horses, chickens, ducks, fish, or shrimp. No wonder the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai once wrote: "The laughing scholars of the world, their souls sunk deep in the north of Fengdu." To promote China's outstanding traditional culture and satisfy people’s curiosity and desire to learn about ghost culture, the Ghost Kingdom Palace was opened to the public in 1993.

It employs a combination of architectural, sculptural, painterly, electronic, mechanical, audio, and lighting techniques to vividly present the mysteries of the netherworld.
