Shiping Botanical Garden

The park was established in 1960 as a provincial-level forest park. With its pleasant climate—warm in winter and cool in summer—it has been identified by the Chinese Academy of Forestry as one of the best-preserved areas of evergreen broad-leaved forest at low altitudes in the subtropical region along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The garden boasts abundant flora and fauna resources, including over 1,000 plant species, 35 of which are classified as national first- and second-class protected plants; 25 key flowering plant species and 11 rare flower species. There are also 76 species of wild mammals, 24 species of amphibians, 23 species of reptiles, and 92 species of birds, including 4 nationally protected rare species and 6 endemic to China.

The garden features slash pine introduced from the United States, a eucalyptus seed-source demonstration forest jointly cultivated by China and Australia, aerially seeded forests managed by the Sichuan Provincial Forestry Department, and an excellent variety seed-source demonstration garden of Tibetan cypress and Masson pine run by the Sichuan Academy of Forestry. It has been designated by the Ministry of Forestry as one of the wildlife monitoring stations in the Three Gorges Reservoir area of the Yangtze River.
