Five Fish Mountain Jade Emperor Sacred Site Scenic Area

The Fengdu Jade Emperor Sacred Site Scenic Area, also known as Ghost City Heaven, is located in Mingshan Subdistrict, Fengdu County. It is closely connected to the Ghost City Mingshan Scenic Area and Shuanggui Mountain National Forest Park, and is 120 kilometers away from downtown Chongqing. High-speed railways, expressways, and the Yangtze River shipping routes run through the entire area. The scenic area has been designated by the China Religious Tourism Committee as the “World Sacred Site for Taoist Cultural Tourism” and is one of the core cultural tourism destinations for the Goodness Culture of Ghost City Fengdu.

Built against the mountain and overlooking the river, the scenic area is designed in the image of the Jade Emperor. Based on the Four Symbols, Five Elements, and Eight Trigrams, it features over 30 traditional buildings with distinct styles, along with 208 exquisitely sculpted deities. These elements showcase traditional immortal Taoist culture and create a sacred and solemn atmosphere embodying Taoism, Buddhism, and religious culture. The scenic area integrates astronomy, history, religion, literature, architecture, and art, forming a cultural tourism experience centered around palaces, halls, chambers, towers, pavilions, corridors, plaques, and gardens. It highlights a unique travel quality that interprets life’s journey as “understanding the way of heaven and grasping the principles of human affairs.”

The Fengdu Jade Emperor Sacred Site Scenic Area offers panoramic views from its mountaintop location, providing both distant vistas of the new Three Gorges resettlement city of Fengdu and close-up scenes of the Yangtze River and the Ghost City tourist attractions. The entire scenic area features a harmonious blend of river and gorge landscapes, naturally formed and steeped in historical significance. It seeks to interpret human faith culture through the understanding of civilization, reflecting contemporary interpretations, inheritance, and dissemination of China’s outstanding 5,000-year-old civilization. It is a uniquely large-scale cultural landscape, the world’s largest anthropomorphic sculpture architectural art complex, and an important spiritual destination for the public to fulfill their wishes and prayers.
