Ma'an Forest Park

Ma'an Forest Park is located in Sansheng Town in the northeastern part of Beibei District, Chongqing. It can be accessed via the road from downtown Beibei to Jindaoxia. The park is 30 kilometers from the city center of Beibei. It is a mountainous natural scenic tourist area.

Ma'an Forest Park covers an area of 11 square kilometers and features a subtropical mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest landscape; the area has an average annual temperature of 18.6°C and a maximum elevation of 1,040 meters. The park boasts abundant tree species resources, with 1,359 species of vascular plants from 716 genera and 179 families, including 124 species of ferns from 66 genera and 35 families; 9 species of gymnosperms from 8 genera and 6 families; and 1,226 species of angiosperms from 642 genera and 138 families. In addition to common subtropical tree species such as Chinese fir, Masson pine, evergreen oak, camphor, nanmu, and sweetgum, there are also 16 species (including cultivated introductions) of wild plants under national protection, spanning 14 families and 15 genera. By systematic classification, there is 1 species of fern (1 family, 1 genus), 3 species of gymnosperms (3 families, 3 genera), and 12 species of angiosperms (10 families, 11 genera). By life form, there are 9 woody plant species, including 4 evergreen trees, 5 deciduous trees, 1 woody liana, and 6 herbaceous plants, of which 2 are herbaceous vines. These include ginkgo, yew, southern yew, dawn redwood, golden lycium, kiwifruit, dysosma versipellis, gynostemma pentaphyllum, dioscorea zingiberensis, eucommia, walnut, camphor, nanmu, lotus, camptotheca acuminata, and buckwheat.

The forest of Ma'an Forest Park is home to 190 animal species across four classes—amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals—belonging to 134 genera, 57 families, and 21 orders. Among them: there are 11 amphibian species (1 order, 5 families, 8 genera); 20 reptile species (3 orders, 6 families, 15 genera); 131 bird species (11 orders, 32 families, 86 genera); and 28 mammal species (6 orders, 14 families, 25 genera). Among terrestrial vertebrates, there are 11 species under national Class II protection, including the black kite, Eurasian sparrowhawk, common buzzard, Chinese goshawk, oriental honey-buzzard, crested goshawk, northern goshawk, collared scops owl, collared owlet, brown wood owl, and large Indian civet. The park features a scattering of peaks, winding and continuous mountain ranges, integrated landscapes of mountains and water, and striking scenery. Its majestic peaks, deep valleys, legendary tales, and rugged rocks are naturally formed wonders. Viewed from below, the mountain peaks stand tall and take on diverse shapes; from the mountaintop, one can see overlapping ridges, clusters of unique peaks, jagged rocks, and a variety of forms.
