Hanfeng Shen Valley Scenic Area

Hanfeng Shen Valley Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Jingzhu Gorge–Shen Valley Scenic Area is located within Jingzhu Gorge in the upper reaches of the Daning River, stretching 7 km in length and situated 21 km from Wuxi County. The scenic area features “lofty cliffs on both sides, varying in width to barely admit a single reed.” Precipitous cliffs rise on either bank, sheer as if hewn; ancient paths wind along the cliffs like intestines, twisting and rugged. The surrounding high mountains are covered with dense green bamboo, presenting a lush view reminiscent of a painted screen.

On the western riverbank lies the Chongqing Municipal Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit — the Pre-Qin Tusi Rock Coffin Cluster of Jingzhu Dam. Twenty-four rock coffins are preserved here, placed end to end. To this day, it remains a mystery why and how the ancients managed to place these hollowed-out wooden coffins into cliff crevices more than 300 meters above the river.

Built on the spacious grounds of Jingzhu Dam, “Shen Valley” covers an area of 28 mu. It offers a tranquil atmosphere with meandering streams and elegant surroundings. The park showcases the forms and essence of ancient Wu culture through various means such as murals, sculptures, facial masks, and audiovisual displays, and also recreates Cai Lun-style papermaking techniques.

The scenic area provides comprehensive facilities for dining, accommodation, entertainment, and shopping, offering visitors all-round, high-quality services.
