The Changhua River is the second largest river in Hainan Province. It originates from the Kongshi Ridge in the Limu Mountain Forest Area of Qiongzhong County, Hainan, traversing the central and western parts of Hainan Island. The main stream stretches 232 kilometers in length, with a drainage area of 5,150 square kilometers and a total drop of 1,270 meters. In 1990, the state approved the construction of the Daguangba Water Conservancy and Hydropower Project in the middle section of the river. The Daguangba Reservoir dam is 5,842 meters long, making it the longest dam in Asia, with a total storage capacity of 1.71 billion cubic meters. The Daguangba Hydropower Station has a total installed capacity of 240,000 kilowatts, making it the largest hydropower station in Hainan Province. After the Daguangba Reservoir was completed and began normal water storage in 1994, the backwater extended upstream to Baoding Village, located above the county seat of Ledong, spanning nearly 60 kilometers in total (including 30 kilometers within Ledong County), forming a vast artificial lake. The water quality is excellent and the natural environment is exceptionally picturesque. Boating and fishing on the river, surrounded by the picturesque scenery on both banks, offers a sensation akin to “traveling within a painting.”
