Jiashi Nature Reserve is situated in the northern part of Ledong Li Autonomous County, bordered by Yingge Ridge Provincial Nature Reserve to the east, separated by a river from Jianfengling National Forest Park to the west, abutting Bawangling National Black Crested Gibbon Nature Reserve to the north, and located 13 kilometers south of Ledong Li Autonomous County. The reserve covers a total land area of 124,900 mu, including 90,800 mu of tropical primary rainforest. The area features majestic mountains, with ten well-known peaks over 1,000 meters high, the tallest being Houmiling Peak at 1,655 meters above sea level. The average annual temperature is 20°C, with an annual rainfall of around 2,000 mm, and frequent cloud cover at higher elevations. Due to the rugged terrain and deep valleys, human activity is scarce, allowing the forest vegetation to retain the unique natural landscape of tropical primary rainforest. The forest boasts rich biodiversity, with over 4,500 plant species, including major valuable tree species such as Hopea hainanensis, Parashorea chinensis, Dalbergia odorifera, Magnolia lotungensis, Pinus latteri, and Podocarpus neriifolius. Particularly noteworthy are the vast mixed stands of Sabina chinensis var. kwangtungensis and Pinus latteri, which are unique to the entire island of Hainan. The reserve is also home to more than 100 rare animal species, including gibbons, monitor lizards, pythons, sambar deer, monkeys, black bears, and peacock-pheasants. The Hongshui River Valley within the reserve, though only about 10,000 meters long, features a drop of over 1,500 meters, with steep cliffs on both sides covered in rainforest trees. Wild monkey troops can occasionally be spotted playing in the treetops. The riverbed is strewn with smooth, polished stones, interspersed with mountain springs, pools, and waterfalls, creating stunning scenery. It is an ideal destination for forest exploration and eco-tourism experiences that reconnect visitors with nature.
