The Jiuwentang Volcanic Cold Spring is located in the Jiuwentang Village Committee, Longmen Town, Ding’an County, Hainan Province, approximately 70 kilometers from the provincial capital Haikou, about a one-hour drive. There are dozens of springs at Jiuwentang, with a daily natural discharge of up to 40,000 cubic meters, making it the highest-flow cold spring in China and the country’s only tropical cold spring. It forms a geographical counterpart with the Wudalianchi Cold Spring in Heilongjiang—“Wudalianchi in the north, Jiuwentang in the south.”

The Jiuwentang Volcanic Cold Spring is colorless, odorless, and crystal clear, with a constant year-round temperature of 23–27°C. Cool in summer and warm in winter, it has a sweet and refreshing taste that meets the requirements for natural drinking mineral water. It is classified as a sodium-calcium-magnesium bicarbonate-type cold spring, with relatively high levels of selenium and germanium, and low mineralization with a slightly silicic acid composition. Its health and wellness benefits are exceptionally high. Rich in selenium and germanium, the spring water offers strong health-promoting properties. Germanium helps stimulate antibody production and has anti-tumor, anti-lipid peroxidation, and anti-aging effects. Selenium helps protect cell membranes, boosts immunity, prevents cardiovascular disease, and combats aging. Silicic acid can soften blood vessels, prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases, and prolong life. Thanks to its excellent water quality and beautiful living environment, the area has become known as a longevity village in Hainan, with as many as 19 centenarians per 10,000 people.

The original ecological environment of Jiuwentang Cold Spring is well preserved. Towering banyan trees provide dense shade, ancient volcanic rocks are scattered across the landscape, while springs flow gently, small fish swim in groups, and exotic flowers bloom vibrantly. It is a uniquely distinctive and market-competitive tourist, leisure, and wellness resort destination on Hainan Island.

Jiuwentang Village: The Jiuwentang Village Committee boasts the highest-flow cold spring in China and the country’s only tropical cold spring, and is also one of the revolutionary old bases in Ding’an County with a strong heritage of revolutionary tradition. The committee includes 10 natural villages, 15 economic cooperatives, 438 households, and a total population of 1,625. The land area spans 15,352.8 mu, including 1,090 mu of paddy fields, 1,494 mu of sloping fields, and 1,983 mu of forested land. The main sources of income are rubber and betel nut cultivation. In 2014, the per capita income of farmers was 9,218 yuan.
