Danzhou Revolutionary Heroes Monument

The Danzhou Revolutionary Heroes Monument is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Danzhou Revolutionary Heroes Monument is a protected revolutionary martyrs' memorial site in Hainan Province. It is located on Triangle Ridge, east of the scenic Yunyue Lake Resort in the suburbs of Nada Town, Danzhou City (2 kilometers from the city center). The managing authority is the Danzhou Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.

The Danzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Monument was built in 1995. The monument stands 33 meters tall, with a base approximately 3 meters high, constructed from granite. It covers an area of 100 mu, and the mountain it sits on reaches a height of 189.1 meters. There are six tiers with a total of 255 steps leading from the foot of the mountain to the top. The monument faces directly onto Haiyu West Road and presents an imposing sight. The front of the monument is inscribed with the name “Danzhou Revolutionary Heroes Monument.” The surrounding platform features eight relief sculptures depicting major events in Danzhou’s revolutionary history, including the founding of the Dan County Communist Party Committee (July 1927), the October Uprising (October 11, 1927), participation in the Yunlong Reorganization (December 1938), establishment of the anti-Japanese base (1941), the Maige Battle (June 9, 1943), the Spring Offensive (March 15, 1949), cooperation with field armies in the seaborne crossing operation (March 1950), and the celebration of liberation (April 20, 1950), as well as statues of martyrs heroically resisting the enemy during wartime. The back of the monument is inscribed with the following commemorative text: “In 1927, the revolutionary red government of Dan County was established. Under the leadership of the Qiongya Special Committee and the original Dan County Party Committee, party, government, and military organs, the Fourth Detachment of the Qiongya Independent Regiment, and broad masses of revolutionaries endured the arduous struggles of the First Revolutionary Civil War, the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the Anti-Japanese War, the Liberation War, and many years of relentless and indomitable struggle after the founding of the nation. Over 1,200 revolutionary heroes sacrificed their precious lives for the revolutionary cause. This monument is specially erected in their memory.”

The people of Danzhou are brave, hardworking, and have a proud tradition of revolutionary struggle. Especially after the establishment of the Dan County Communist Party organization in the spring of 1926, under the Party's leadership, the heroic sons and daughters of Danzhou engaged in arduous and unyielding battles against both domestic and foreign enemies through the New Democratic Revolution—from the Great Revolution and the Agrarian Revolutionary War to the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War. They made immense sacrifices and indelible contributions. The 23 years of the Qiongya revolutionary struggle saw the red flag never fall, and that flag was stained with the blood of Danzhou’s heroic sons and daughters. Countless Communists and revolutionaries, in pursuit of national independence and prosperity, and the liberation of the people, persevered relentlessly—some died heroically on the battlefield, some were executed with honor at the execution ground, and others succumbed to overwork while on duty. With their blood and lives, they brought forth the birth of New China. During the period of socialist revolution and construction, countless outstanding sons and daughters of Danzhou fought on all fronts. For the construction of Danzhou, Hainan, and the nation, for safeguarding the security of the motherland and the happiness of the people, some died in the line of duty, some sacrificed heroically on battlefields defending the homeland, and others acted bravely in the face of danger, giving up their precious lives for the prosperity of the nation and the happiness of the people, for the development and progress of Danzhou. They are truly worthy of being the finest children of Danzhou and the Chinese nation. Their glorious names and heroic deeds will shine through the annals of history and be forever remembered by the people; their towering images, like immortal monuments, will stand forever in the hearts of the people.
