Danzhou Dongpo Well

Danzhou Dongpo Well is a cultural relic protection unit of Hainan Province.

Danzhou Dongpo Well is located in the central courtyard of Dongpo Academy, which is divided into an eastern courtyard, a western courtyard, and a central sightseeing area. The eastern and western sections mainly feature text exhibitions about the life of Mr. Dongpo and how he came to this place, as well as the contributions he made to the local Li people during his three years of residence here.

Back then, Su Dongpo helped the villagers dig a well, which had a strong flow of sweet water. The villagers named it “Dongpo Well.” For hundreds of years, the sweet well water has never dried up. A semicircular wall was added around the well, possibly because fresh water resources were extremely scarce in ancient times, and wells were sealed off, only to be accessed within the enclosed area when needed.

Zhonghe Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Danzhou City. Established as Zhonghe Town in 1957, later changed to a commune, became a district in 1983, and was re-established as a town in 1986. It is located in the northwest part of the city, 50 kilometers from the municipal government. Covering an area of 51.5 square kilometers with a population of 27,000, it is accessible by road via the Na (Da) Gan (Chong) Highway. The town administers 11 village committees: Gaodi, Shuijing, Shanchun, Lingchun, Heping, Wuli, Qili, Huanlong, Huangjiang, Changcun, and Hengshan, as well as one neighborhood committee, Zhonghe. Town-run enterprises include a timber processing plant, repair shop, non-staple food processing plant, agricultural tools factory, waterworks, and tourism industry.
