Lotus Pier

Lotus Pier is located in the middle of the Wanquan River. Legend has it that long ago, a dragon turtle caused havoc here, bringing disaster to the local people. Upon hearing the news, Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy) hurried to the South Sea, stepping on a lotus. After seventy-two rounds of magical combat with the dragon turtle, she finally subdued it and ordered it never to cause trouble again. She then removed her lotus throne and rode the turtle away. The discarded lotus throne is what we now know as Lotus Pier. At the end of 1999, Mr. Jiang Xiaosong, the father of Boao and a key promoter of the Boao Forum for Asia, donated and built an 8-meter-tall statue of Guanyin on Lotus Pier for visitors to admire, offer incense, and worship. It offers a chance to reflect on the moving and epic ancient legend.
