Built in 1958 and situated on Fuhai Road, Jiaji Town, Qionghai. Yang Shanji was an early revolutionary activist of our Party, a key founder of the Qiongya Party organization and armed struggle. On September 23, 1927, he heroically sacrificed his life at the age of 27 during the Battle of Yezhai, where he led an armed uprising across Qiongya.

In 1919, after graduation, he returned to his hometown to work as an elementary school teacher. In the autumn of 1921, he was admitted to the Guangdong Highway Engineering School. In December 1923, he joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League. He participated in establishing progressive youth organizations such as the Qiongya Revolutionary Comrades Association and published periodicals like New Qiongya Review. In 1924, he was sent to the Soviet Union, where he studied successively at the Moscow Oriental University and the Chinese Section of the Red Army School. In December of the same year, he became a member of the Chinese Communist Party.

In August 1925, he returned to China. Starting in September, he served as the Propaganda Minister of the Two Guangs District Committee of the Communist Youth League, an Executive Committee Member of the District Committee, Secretary of the Guangzhou Local Committee, and Propaganda Minister. In December, he became the Secretary of the Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Youth League. He mobilized youth to support the Eastern and Southern Expeditions of the National Revolutionary Army, developed the League’s organization, trained League cadres, and promoted the youth movement.

After the failure of the Great Revolution in 1927, he was sent back to Hainan. In June, he presided over an emergency meeting of the Qiongya District Committee of the Party, conveying instructions from the Guangdong District Committee of the Party. It was decided to reorganize the District Committee into a Special Committee, establish a Military Commission and a Peasant-Worker Revolutionary Army Command, with him serving as Secretary of the Qiongya Special Committee of the Party, Chairman of the Military Commission, and Representative of the Peasant-Worker Revolutionary Army. He organized revolutionary armed forces, led peasant soldiers in attacks on police stations and militia posts in places like Bo’ao Port, countered the suppression of reactionary forces, and advanced the development of the armed struggle in Qiongya. In September of the same year, together with Wang Wenming and Feng Ping, he organized and led the Qiongya Armed Uprising. On September 23, he sacrificed his life in the Battle of Yezhai, Ledong (now part of Qionghai).

Yang Shanji (1900–1927), courtesy name Yifu, pen name Yang Bai. A native of Qiongdong (now Qionghai), Hainan. An early revolutionary activist of the Chinese Communist Party, a pioneer in the work of the Guangdong Communist Youth League and the youth movement during the Great Revolution, and one of the founders of the Party organization and revolutionary armed forces in Hainan. He tirelessly struggled for the liberation of the Chinese people and died a glorious death in September 1927 at the age of 27. Nie Rongzhen, a comrade-in-arms of Yang Shanji, praised him, saying: “Comrade Yang Shanji, in his short life, remained consistently loyal to the revolutionary cause of the Party. He was a good comrade.”
