Boao Golf & Country Club is a key project in the large-scale comprehensive international tourism and resort development zone of Boao. Thanks to its unique geographical conditions and the meticulous design of its developers, after more than two years of construction and trial operation, China’s first and Asia’s only full-island links-style golf course has finally unveiled its unique charm and allure on Shapo Island at the mouth of the Wanquan River.

The course features 18 holes, par 72, and a total length of 7,019 yards. The front nine holes loop around the island, surrounded by rivers and seas, with sparkling waters on all sides, blending sea and sky vistas with nearby mountains and waters. The back nine holes weave through the island, incorporating sand traps, peculiar rocks, coconut groves, reed marshes, and pastoral scenery. Even in the height of summer, cool breezes and migratory birds accompany players, making it a natural park that offers both golf excitement and wild charm.

Since its opening, the course has hosted numerous distinguished domestic and international guests as well as passionate golf enthusiasts, and has held various distinctive golf tournaments. Its highly challenging course style has been praised by Mr. Cui Zhiqiang, Secretary-General of the China Golf Association, as “one of China’s most distinctive courses.” After playing, Mr. Francesco Frangialli, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, was deeply moved and wrote: “Although my golf skills may not match this magnificent course, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself.” On July 26, 1997, former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke and former Japanese Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa, along with their spouses, visited the site together as the first distinguished guests to try their swings on the course, laying a strong foundation of popularity for Boao Golf & Country Club to welcome golfers and go international.

Meticulously sculpted by Canadian course designer Mr. Bill and strictly supervised by Japanese supervisor Mr. Yuji, the course skillfully incorporates various golf techniques and strategies across its approximately 800,000 square meters of island space, allowing players of all skill levels to test their abilities and refine their techniques on holes of varying difficulty.
