Qionghai Jukui Pagoda is a cultural tourism attraction.

Jukui Pagoda is located about 500 meters southwest of Taying Town in Qionghai City. Nestled among swaying coconut palms of varying heights, the pagoda stands majestically, reaching toward the sky. It is one of the best-preserved ancient structures in Hainan.

According to the *Qiongdong County Annals*, Jukui Pagoda was built in the 21st year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty (1599) by Lu Zhang, the then magistrate of Qiongdong County. Legend has it that one night during the pagoda’s construction, Lu Zhang dreamed of a man named Xiao Huo wearing a blue dress, standing atop the pagoda and chanting, “The Kui Tower pierces the heavens and connects to noble mansions.” Thus, the pagoda was named “Jukui Pagoda.”

Jukui Pagoda is nearly 30 meters tall and has seven stories. As the height increases with each level, both the height and width decrease proportionally. The pagoda has a hollow core, a base at the bottom, surrounding walls, a northern-facing main entrance, and a stone plaque above the lintel inscribed with “Jukui Pagoda.” The structure imitates Tang Dynasty architecture, featuring an elegant and distinctive design. Each of its seven stories is made up of eight wall faces, classifying it as a storied brick-eaved pagoda. Seven sides have false doors, while only one side has a real door. The real door faces south. Entering through this door, visitors can follow a dimly lit, narrow stairway within the walls to reach the second level. Continuing upward via the stairs, they can ascend all the way to the top. At the joints between each floor are decorative brick eaves, both beautiful and sturdy. A horizontal wooden beam is placed at the pagoda’s summit, and by climbing onto the rafter, visitors can stand atop the circular pagoda peak. From here, the surrounding landscape — green trees, lush crops, emerald lotus leaves, and crimson lotus flowers — is fully visible, offering a breathtaking view that inspires openness and tranquility.

Jukui Pagoda not only provides direct insight into the development history and architectural artistry of ancient buildings in Hainan, but also holds significant value for tourism and sightseeing.
