Shazhou Island

Located in the middle reaches of the Wanquan River and adjacent to Jiaji Town, the seat of the Qionghai Municipal Government, Shazhou Island was formed by alluvial deposits of sand and silt, covering an area of over 300 acres. It stretches long like a bright crescent moon lying on the river. The island features a clear-water lake that is visibly separated yet secretly connected to the river, creating the marvelous scene of “an island in the river, and a lake on the island.” Development of Shazhou Island began in preliminary form in 1992.

Flowers bloom around the lake all year round, and the grass is lush and green. The island is charming and picturesque, surrounded by shimmering river waters, which made it a favorite among many visitors at the time. Currently, an international entertainment center invested in by an American company is located on the island. With its glazed red tiles reflecting on the river, the island is set to attract visitors from all directions with its brand-new look.
